Hi! This is Runchu Tian (田润初).

I am a first year PhD student in Prof. Mohit Bansal’s Group at UNC-Chapel Hill, working on LLM post-training for long-horizon agentic tasks.

I received my MS degree from UIUC, where I was advised by Prof. Jiawei Han on LLM enhanced Information Retrieval. Before that, I earned my Bachelor degree from Tsinghua University, where I was advised by Prof. Zhiyuan Liu on LLM agents.

I am actively looking for academic and industrial connections and opportunities. Feel free to contact me for collaborations, connections, or any questions you may have whether by email (runchutian[at]gmail.com) or through social media. Thank you!

Recent Updates

I am actively looking for research internships for Summer 2027. Feel free to reach out!

  • Our new preprint MiRL is out! We use error-targeted RL to correct the recurring misbehaviors of terminal agents. Check it out!
  • SimSD, our speculative decoding method for diffusion language models, is accepted to NeurIPS 2026!
  • Started my PhD at UNC-Chapel Hill, working with Prof. Mohit Bansal.
  • Graduated from UIUC with my M.S. in Computer Science.
